WHO AM I?

I am a very happily married man of 45 years, a dad for 2 and a pop pop for 5. I am a very blessed man. Music has been a wonderful part of my life. My first piano lessons started at the age of 6 which means I have been playing piano for over 60 years. My first church job was at the age of 15 as a classical organist. So many musical adventures have taken place in these past 50 years.

In High School I formed a Folk Group, a Jazz Band and a Dixieland Band. Those were the days.

In my 20s and 30s I played with the Bay City Seven Dixieland Band, formed a wonderful trio group of Piano, Banjo and Tuba doing sing-a-longs all over Baltimore.

I also ventured into Club music preforming music from the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s. Music was Wonderful!

Since the 80s I have devoted my love for music serving God. Leading Worship Services, Directing Choirs, and Playing Praise & Worship Music and Gospel Music all around Baltimore.

After retiring from Director of Music at my old church this past August 2018, I have been sharing music in nursing homes all around Baltimore and DC. I have been told over and over again how my music blesses the people I have been privileged to meet, but the real truth is, I AM THE ONE WHO GETS BLESSED!!!

SOOOO… Here I am offering my services as The Singing Senior. Doing my best to bring smiles and Joy to those I get the privilege to Sing too. Russ Hughes

MY PASSION

MUSIC, I LOVE MUSIC!!! IT IS MY PASSION!!! YOU NEED TO PUT YOUR ALL INTO. My son said Dad you are a singer not a dancer. I said move over son here I come!!! He was right, I was sore for a week. So, I am going to stay with Singing. I am so blessed to be able to share my music. No matter how I feel, there is always a certain song that I can relate to. Sometimes I find myself crying because of how much the lyrics to a song touch my heart. The feeling I get while sharing music, is unexplainable. Music, to me, is the art of taking words and melodies, and amorously putting them together that in turn form a masterpiece that appeals not only to the ear, but also to the heart. The best part of my love for music is I get to sing and share the music I love with others and see it begin its magic!

I have seen the joy of sharing music turn a restless soul in to a peaceful calm. Music is like medicine for people's busy lifetime as the rhythm and melody of music helps take them back to their most beautiful memories. Music has an important role in our pastime as this brings joy as well as emotion to our soul. I LOVE SINGING AND SHARING THE JOY OF MUSIC!
